Academic Scholarships

Academic scholarships are available and awarded on the basis of academic achievement. All students who take our entrance exam are considered for scholarship competition, provided they have submitted an application and transcript by January 5.

The following academic scholarships are awarded:

  • 7 - One-quarter tuition scholarships
  • 2 - One-half tuition scholarships
  • 1 - Full tuition scholarship

Alumni Scholarship

The Alumni Association awards one Alumni Scholarship annually to an incoming freshman. This scholarship is highly competetive and is based on need and academic achievement. In order for a student to be considered for the scholarship, his family must qualify for financial aid.

Joseph Healey Scholarship

The Healey Scholarship is a full, four-year tuition scholarship awarded annually to a student who demonstrates high academic ability and financial need. Financial aid qualification is required.

Tuition Assistance Program

Bishop Hendricken and the Diocese of Providence strive to make a Catholic education affordable to families by allocating funds for need-based tuition assistance. Approximately one quarter of our student body receives some financial assistance. All awards are based on a family's financial need and the availability of funds.

Who should apply?

If a need exists, we encourage families to apply. A number of factors are considered to determine whether or not a family will qualify for tuition assistance. The Diocese of Providence utilizes Provide School Aid Service, a national reviewing company, to determine the amount to be offered.

When should families apply?

Parents of incoming students should submit their tuition assistance applications by mid-February.

How do families apply?

Tuition assistance applications can be obtained by contacting Judie Mulhearn at 401-739-3450 ext. 117.

How do families know if they qualify?

Tuition assistance applicants receive a letter informing them if aid is being awarded or not, and for how much by mid-May. All families are expected to make some contribution towards a student's tuition.

Do families re-apply every year?

Yes, awards are not automatically renewed. An application must be submitted for each school year.

Do these awards have to be repaid?

Awards are neither scholarships nor loans. Awards do not have to be repaid.

When assistance is awarded, what options are available to pay the remaining tuition balance?

Bishop Hendricken offers three payment options:

  1. Full payment plan: Families who choose this plan receive a $100.00 discount. Tuition is paid in full by June 1.
  2. Two payment plan: The full year's tuition is divided into two equal payments. The first payment is due on June 1, and the second is due December 1.
  3. Automatic tuition agreement: This is an automatic monthly withdrawal from your checking or savings account. Payments will be withdrawn in June and end in March. Your payment will be divided evenly over a ten month period.
