Lacrosse is Hendricken’s newest Rhode Island Interscholastic League varsity program, It was introduced in 1999 and grew over its first few years under the direction of the late Scott Shemenski, a Rhode Island lacrosse pioneer and architect of the state’s first youth programs.
The Hawks appeared in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s first state championship final in 2001 and have won five state championships including an upset win over top seeded LaSalle Academy in 2011. The head coach is Kevin Murray assisted by Joseph Murray and Sean Murray ‘08. The Hawks also field a JV team coached by Matt Clifford ’05.
Colin Briggs ’07, a star on the University of Virginia’s national championship team, was a four time All American selection during his Hendricken career. In January, Briggs became the first Hawk to have his Hendricken jersey number retired.
