how will the mission stay alive at bishop hendricken after the christian brothers?
Bishop Hendricken High School will remain a school dedicated to the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice and the traditions of the Irish Christian Brothers. The Brothers faithfully served the Bishop Hendricken Community from 1971-2011. During those years they left us with a wonderful legacy of spirituality and dedication to God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Bishop Hendricken High School is committed to continuing this legacy and the Christian Brothers and they have provided us with the mechanism to ensure its continued success.
In 2009-2010, Brother Leto appointed Mr. Mancuso, our principal from 2004-2009, to serve as the first Director of Mission Integration; this office is dedicated to continuing the legacy of the Brothers and ensuring that the mission permeates all that we do inside and outside of Bishop Hendricken High School. The administration, faculty and staff will attend all of the professional development opportunities offered by the Brother to make sure that we remain educated and inspired by the example of Blessed Edmund Rice and the Brothers.
The Brothers have created an Office of Educational Services which provides guidance and assistance to school to prepare for the physical departure of the Brothers but to keep the Charism of the founder alive and well.
We continue to provide many opportunities for our students to live and witness the mission on an ongoing basis. Our Campus Ministry Department has established many programs to further enhance the spiritual development of our young men. These include a Friday morning prayer service for our students and Blessed Edmund Rice events, where our students commit to various service projects. Bishop Hendricken High School has certainly “created a climate for the growth of a social conscience committed to peace and justice.” Many students apply to attend the numerous service trips to Peru, Kentucky, and Florida throughout the school year and the summer. There is a Peace and Justice club which also dedicates itself to helping the poor and marginalized and a pro-life club that is working to ensure that all life is respect from the moment of conception to natural death. Several faculty members have become Edmund Rice Associates; there are monthly prayer meetings for them and the entire faculty.
We have implemented the very process that the Brothers created to provide the best spiritual and educational experience possible for our students without the Brothers being physically present.
We also need your help to keep the spirit of the Brothers vibrant at Bishop Hendricken. Please come visit and speak to our students and tell them how these great men impacted your life. The work of the Brothers at Bishop Hendricken will never be forgotten and their spirit will be present and active in the hearts of our students.
