Christian Service Program
The mission of Bishop Hendricken High School and our Catholic faith call us to provide service to those in need. We strive to attain this goal by following the example set by Blessed Edmund Rice, founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
To this end, all students are required to complete a minimum of twenty-five hours of Christian service each year. Students may choose to volunteer at any non-profit institution, such as food banks, churches, hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc.
Bishop Hendricken High School also conducts “school sponsored” events to assist our fellow brothers and sisters including:
- Thanksgiving Food Drive
- Christmas Toy Drive
- Weekly collections of monies for Christian Brother mission sites
- Annual Hunger Walk on Holy Thursday
- National & International Service trips
Bishop Hendricken High School has also begun a tradition of traveling to northeast Kentucky for a week long immersion into Christian service helping those who live in the Appalachian Mountains. Lewis County, KY is an extremely poor region in which almost half of the population does not have a high school degree and the poverty level is over twice the national average.
Third world service trips to Christian Brother’s mission sites in Lima, Peru are also held each year. Many more trips are being considered to other Christian Brother mission sites such as Bolivia and Bonita Springs, Florida.
