Bishop Hendricken High School
Hunger Walk – April 14, 2011
$100,000 Hawk Challenge
Dear Parents and Friends of Bishop Hendricken,
This year’s 37th annual Hunger Walk is dedicated to all of the Christian Brothers who have served at Bishop Hendricken High School and specifically the three Brothers serving in their last year here; Brother Michael Binkley, Brother Stephen Casey and Brother John Kiernan. For the past forty years the Christian Brothers have been a vital part of the mission of our school. Their physical presence will certainly be missed but the Christian Brothers will be very dear to our hearts as our community continues the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice each day by living out the Essential Elements of a Christian Brother education in our school.
Solidarity with the poor is an important element of a Christian Brother education. This year our Bishop Hendricken community would like to build “the Hendricken House” in Lima, Peru. This house, honored in the name of our school, will for decades to come house students from across the globe for direct service to the poor. What an honor it will be for the legacy of our young men to know that they made a major impact in our world by building a house of love and compassion for the least of our brothers and sisters.
For Hunger Walk 2011 each Hendricken student is asked to get $100 in sponsors from family, friends, neighbors or anyone who would like to assist us to build the Hendricken Immersion House in Lima, Peru. For years to come, the legacy of the Christian Brothers and Bishop Hendricken will be lived out by the love and generosity that YOU make to this Hunger Walk.
On Wednesday, March 23rd, your son will receive a Sponsor Sheet and an Incentive Sheet to help him succeed in this year’s Hunger Walk. Please encourage your son to work at getting many sponsors and find success in this “thank you” to our Brothers. As a school community we owe a great debt of gratitude to the Christian Brothers for forty years of modeling the Gospel for us at Bishop Hendricken High School. Let us show them on April 14th that the entire Bishop Hendricken community stands with them in solidarity with the poor in the creation of the Bishop Hendricken Immersion House in Lima, Peru. Make your legacy count!!!
We thank you for your generosity and may God continue to bless you always.
