ACADEMIC DECATHLON
MODERTATOR: Sr. Carol Anne Murray
DESCRIPTION: The team prepares throughout the year each spring's state competition. The Hawks won the 2011 Rhode Island title and finished among the Top 25 in the national competition in Charlotte, N.C. BHHS also won the state crown in 2009.
AMBASSADOR'S CLUB
MODERATOR: Mrs. Solomon
DESCRIPTION: More than 100 BHHS students serve as tour guides at Open House and often accompany visiting schools during the school year.
ART CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Costa
DESCRIPTION: Students meet to create and discuss projects and learn more about all forms of art throughout the world.
BILLIARDS CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Costa
DESCRIPTION: Students meet at a local parlor throughout the school year to learn billiards' many games and compete against one another.
BROTHERHOOD
MODERATOR: Mr. Salamone
CHESS CLUB
MODERTATOR: Mrs. Kaskel
DESCRIPTION: Students at all levels of playing experience learn and discuss the game's strategies and compete against one another during meetings.
BROADCASTING CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Benedetto
DESCRIPTION: Hendricken hosts a 24-hour radio station, with student-hosted and produced shows each afternoon after school. Morning shows soon will be added to the schedule. A variety of musical genres fill the rest of the programming.
BUSINESS CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Armstrong
DESCRIPTION: The club helps students focus on potential future careers in the business world. It also helps seniors secure a strong placement for their Senior Experiences each spring. The club meets monthly, with a guest speaker from the business world presenting to the students. This year's group includes 57 students, and is open to the entire student body. Club president is Reuben Horace, vice-president is Michael Pecchia, and secretary/treasurer is Nicholas Simone.
FRENCH CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Theroux
DESCRIPTION: Students learn about French culture, travel to local French restaurants and share those experiences with other students during Modern Language Nights. Club members in 2011-12 also have the chance to travel to Montreal in the spring.
HEALTH CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Hynes
DESCRIPTION: Students help organize school activities and initiatives that promote good health. Some club members help plan BHHS' annual blood drive.
HIKING CLUB
MODERATOR: Mrs. Casale
DESCRIPTION: Students travel throughout New England on weekends to hike paths in wooded areas and near mountains. The club members hiked Mount Monadnock in October.
INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL
MODERATOR: Mr. Monahan
DESCRIPTION: Students play in a freshman/sophomore division or a junior/senior division and use a pick-up format. The league schedule runs from October through November. All students are welcome to play.
INTRAMURAL TENNIS
MODERATOR: Mr. Clark
DESCRIPTION: Students play in the fall, often at Hendricken's courts. All levels of ability and experience are welcome.
ITALIAN CLUB
MODERATOR: Mrs. Barboza
DESCRIPTION: Students learn about Italian culture, travel to Italian restaurants in the region and share those experiences with other students during Modern Language Nights.
MATH TEAM
MODERATOR: Mrs. Mercurio
DESCRIPTION: Students meet to practice for math competitions against other schools throughout Rhode Island. All students are welcome, regardless of their math classes.
NUTRITION CLUB
MODERATOR: Mrs. Casale
DESCRIPTION: Students learn about healthy foods and attempt to educate the school community with what they've learned. The club also holds cook-offs throughout the year to showcase students' culinary skills.
PRO-LIFE CLUB
MODERATOR:
DESCRIPTION: Students learn about life issues with a focus on the Roman Catholic Church's teaching about them. The club has traveled to rallies in Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.
SCIENCE FAIR
MODERATOR: Mr. Ventura and Mr. Graney
DESCRIPTION: Students brainstorm, research and present elaborate projects on a specific, science-related topic. Hendricken has dominated local science fair competitions for decades.
SKI CLUB
MODERATOR: Mr. Plummer
DESCRIPTION: Students take a handful of supervised day and weekend trips to local slopes throughout the winter.
