2015 SUMMER reading
Listed below are the summer reading assignments by grade and placement level for all English classes.  Students are responsible for reading the book(s) and having an individual copy of that book(s) for assessment at the beginning of the school year.

Grade 8 - Class of 2020

All 8th grade students will read BOTH of the following:
Call of the Wild by Jack London
I, Juan de Pareja by Elizabeth Borton de Trevino

Grade 9 - Class of 2019

All freshmen CP1 students will read ONE of the following, and all honors students will read TWO:

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein
Hole in My Life by Jack Gantos
Code Talker: A Novel about the Navajo Marines of WWII  by Joseph Bruchac

All freshmen CP students will read ONE of the following:
Armageddon Summer by Jane Yolen and Bruce Covill
Crossover by Kwame Alexander

Grade 10 - Class of 2018
All sophomore CP1 students will read ONE of the following, and all honors students will read TWO:

All sophomore CP students will read ONE of the following:

GRADE 11 - Class of 2017

All junior CP-1 students will read ONE of the following and all Honors students will read TWO of the following:
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Known World by Edward P. Jones

All junior CP students will read ONE of the following:
Shadow Divers by Robert Kurston
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

All junior Advanced Placement students will read TWO of the following:
The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw
Unbroken by Laura Hilenbrand
When Pride Still Mattered by David Maraniss

 

GRADE 12 - Class of 2016
All senior Advanced Placement students will read BOTH of the following:
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Alll senior CP1 students will read ONE of the following, and all honors students will read TWO:
The Stranger by Albert Camus
The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
Peace Like a River by Leif Enger

All senior CP students will read ONE of the following:
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
