The Bishop Hendricken High School Drama Program is an exceptional theater arts community for young actors, directors, playwrights, designers and technical students.
Students of all abilities and interests can join together to take part in an exciting and enriching program. Young ladies from Catholic, public, and private schools join the men of Hendricken each season to produce high quality theater productions. Each season our program features a fall play, winter student play festival, and spring musical.
The Drama Program is in residence in the beautiful air-conditioned 350-seat Dr. Daniel S. Harrop Theater. The theater boasts a full cat-walk grid, a state-of-the-art light and sound system and a thrust stage that brings all the drama right out to the audience. We provide our students with challenging opportunities and hands-on technical experiences that many college theater programs cannot offer. The Drama Program offers students a safe, educational, and rewarding community.
Over the last several years, the drama program has achieved many fantastic accomplishments. Among them are a showcase of the World Premiere of Shay Healy’s Irish musical THE WIREMEN; presenting the 2009 and 2011 New Artist Play Festivals Off Broadway at the Helen Mills Theater; and representing the state of Rhode Island at the New England Drama Festival with their original production of “Not Strictly Shakespeare.” In the summer of 2012, several of our drama students took the international stage as one of 35 schools in the country performing at the world’s largest and most prestigious theater festival, the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
