Hendricken’s Academic Decathlon wins RI State Title, Moves on to Nationals

Congratulations to Bishop Hendricken’s academic decathlon team as they won their seventh straight 34th annual Rhode Island state championship at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight Campus in Warwick.

The boys dominated the day winning 44 medals in the ten-event scholastic competition. Hendricken also had three students place in the top 3 overall in each of the Decathlon’s three division: Steven Huang (Honors Division), Alden Pratt (Scholastic) and Ryan Brady (Varsity)! The top six overall scorers all came from Bishop Hendricken!

The Hawks accumulated a total of 41,619 points. Hendricken was more than 10,000 points ahead of silver medallist East Greenwich and nearly 12,000 points clear of bronze-winning Classical.

Hendricken chemistry teacher, Sister Carol Ann Murray’s academic decathlon team will now make there way to Madison, Wisconsin for the national event from April 20-22.

The Hawks will look to improve upon their showing last year in Anchorage, Alaska when the came in second place. Good luck to Sister Carol Ann and the team!
