For over a decade, Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken has inspired young performing artists and entertained sold-out audiences from around Rhode Island.
Over the last several years, the program has expanded tremendously, offering new opportunities to middle and high school students. The Summer Stage Workshop is a two week performing arts camp for students entering grades 5-9 that showcases the next generation of stars. Our show choir camp brings singers and dancers ages 12-16 together to work in this up and coming performance medium made so popular in recent years. Our newest addition to our summer camps is Summer Screen, a one-week film making camp for students entering grades 7-10. This camp allows young film makers to create short films using our state of the art cameras, equipment, and editing software.
In 2009, Summer Stage unveiled the Touring Ensemble, which allows high school and college performers to produce a children’s play that tours throughout the state to engage young audiences who might not have the opportunity to see live theater. The hallmark of our Summer Stage Program, however, is our yearly summer musical theater event. High school students from around the state work with our professional artists to produce a memorable theatrical event.
