8th Grade SELECT

8th Grade SELECT

8th Grade SELECT

In 2015, Bishop Hendricken High School launched the 8th Grade SELECT Program, which serves qualified boys from Rhode Island and surrounding Massachusetts and Connecticut communities. The program provides a rigorous academic curriculum to challenge high-achieving young men who are looking for more in preparation for high school.

Core Tenets

Scholarship
Students will study a rigorous curriculum in Mathematics, Science, and the Humanities subjects.

Excellence
Students will train to seek the highest achievement in areas in and outside the classroom, including Catholic values that form them as faith-filled young men.

Leadership
Students will develop the confidence, critical thinking and communications skills to grow into their generation’s most valued decision makers.

Expression
Students will discover their unique talents and voice against the backdrop of classical and modern arts, languages and history.

Community
Students will grow in awareness of significant issues in their neighborhoods, state, country and the world through volunteer work and knowledge of Catholic teaching.

Technology
Students will employ state-of-the-art tools to prepare to thrive in a constantly shifting global economy.

Academic Levels & Student Experience

8th Grade SELECT students receive the full breadth of the Hendricken experience an entire year before high school.

SELECT offers two levels of academic placement to challenge all learners: the traditional honors level for the most advanced students, and a general track to prepare scholars with a stronger foundation for the rigors and academic expectation of our college preparatory curriculum. Curricula in both tracks focus on producing academically well-rounded students.

In addition to special 8th grade social programming, SELECT students participate in all community-wide events, including Masses, assemblies, sporting events, arts programs, and more. Students compete in several sports offered through the Catholic Athletic League.
