How to Apply

Applying for Admission

Choosing a high school is a big decision. Our goal is to make this process as easy, explorative, and helpful as possible.

As a school, we have a whole-of-person mission, and we take the same holistic approach to admissions. In addition to reviewing a student’s academic record, standardized test scores, and recommendations, we look to see how each applicant knows no limits — that is to say: what their dreams and goals are, how they’re involved in their school and community, and why they think Bishop Hendricken is a good fit for them.

Understanding Each Requirement

Admission Application

The first step in applying to Bishop Hendricken is the admission application. This should be completed online by a parent/guardian and the prospective student. This application introduces you to the Admissions Committee, including telling us about your background and interests. There is a $50 application fee. Apply here.

School Transcripts

We’ll request your official transcripts for the past 2 academic years from your previous school. These include a student’s courses and grades, including any available from the current school year. A parent/guardian will give us permission to request transcripts as part of the online Admissions Application.

Teacher Recommendation

On the Admissions Application, you’ll provide the name(s) of a current or previous year’s teacher(s) whom you’d like to complete a recommendation from for you. All applicants must have 1-2 teacher recommendations. We’ll request and receive the recommendation from your school to be reviewed with your file.

Entrance Exam (HSPT)

All students applying to the 8th, 9th, and 10th grade are required to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT). This helps us get a sense of your academic profile against national benchmarks.

While students are encouraged to take the entrance exam at their first-choice school, it is not required to be considered for admissions, financial aid, or certain scholarships. All test administrations are offered at Bishop Hendricken. Your HSPT fee is covered as part of your application fee.

Mathematics Placement Exam

Enrolled students will be required to take a Mathematics Placement Exam to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level math class for their incoming year.

Options Requirements

Students applying for the Options Program must also submit an Updated Neuropsychological Assessment, Educational Evaluation, current IEP, and complete a Shadow Day as part of their application. All of these help the Options faculty to better understand the student’s unique needs.

International Requirements

International students must also complete an English Proficiency Score via Duolingo and a Certificate of Finances.

Notification of Admission

Students who complete the application process by the priority filing date will be considered among the first pool of applicants and notification letters will be mailed at the end of January.

After this date, admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis as applications are complete and provided seats are available. Families are strongly encouraged to begin the admissions process in the fall of their son’s 8th-grade year if applying for freshman admissions, or the fall of 7th grade if applying for 8th Grade SELECT.
