Applying for Admission
To submit an online application, you will be asked to pay a $50 application and exam fee online with a credit card. If you prefer to request a paper copy of the application, please call Mrs. Jackie White, Admissions Assistant, at 401.889.5425.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns for the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, shadow visits are suspended for fall 2020. However, private tours may be arranged by contacting Mrs. Cathy Solomon, Director of Admissions, at 401.889.5422. Please call early for best availability. Tours are also available on a limited basis in the summer months.
Transfer candidates may apply at any time, but transfer is limited to a September or January start date, except in the case of relocations. Please contact the Admissions Office to schedule an interview, whether applying for September or January admission. Transfer candidates or their parents are encouraged to contact Mrs. Solomon at 401.889.5422 to discuss criteria for transfer.
School Transcripts & Recommendations
The Admissions Office will request transcripts, previous standardized testing, and a counselor recommendation directly from the applicant’s school. A transcript release is included on the Application for Admission and parents will be required to sign that form electronically when completing the application online. Parents will also be asked to enter the name(s) and email addresses for two teachers/a guidance counselor whom you wish to submit a recommendation for you; the Admissions Committee prefers that these come from an English and Math teacher, but it should be a current teacher. Additional recommendations are not required but you may submit them directly to the Office of Admissions if you wish.
All students applying to the 8th, 9th and 10th grade are required to take the Catholic High School Placement Test, or HSPT. The Entrance Exam will be administered on Saturday, December 5, 2020 OR Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 8:30am-12:15pm. Students may sign up for either exam date; it is the same test on both dates. Due to COVID-19 concerns for health and safety, there will be a maximum number of students allowed to sit on either day for the exam. Students must wear masks and social distancing protocols will be observed. Please register early in order to have your first choice of the exam date.
Applicants are strongly advised to take the entrance exam at their first choice school. Students who take the exam at Bishop Hendricken High School will be given priority consideration for admissions, merit scholarships and financial aid review. If you are sick and unable to attend the exam, please call the Admissions Office at 401.889.5422 to arrange a make-up exam.
Students applying for the 11th grade are not required to take the entrance exam. Instead, candidates for the 11th grade should submit their transcripts, most recent standardized testing, and two letters of recommendation from current teachers.
Bishop Hendricken offers approximately 15 merit scholarships to incoming freshmen based on their performance in the top 3-5% on the entrance exam taken here at Hendricken. Please note: there are no scholarships available to incoming 8th grade students, only for 9th grade. However, 8th Grade SELECT applicants may apply for financial aid.
Notification of Admission
Students who complete the application process by January 1 will be considered among the first pool of applicants, and notification letters will be mailed on January 29, 2021. After this date, Admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis as applications are complete, and provided seats are available. Families are strongly encouraged to begin the admissions process in the fall of the 8th grade year if applying for freshman admissions, or the fall of 7th grade if applying for the 8th Grade SELECT Program.
