The Bishop Hendricken Drama program is an exceptional theater arts community for young actors, directors, playwrights, designers and technical students.
Students of all abilities and interests can join together to take part in an exciting and enriching program. Young ladies from Catholic, public, and private schools join the men of Hendricken each season to produce high quality theater productions. Each season our program features a play, musical, and student play festival.
The Drama program is in residence in the beautiful air-conditioned 350-seat Dr. Daniel S. Harrop Theater. The theater boasts a full cat-walk grid, state-of-the-art light, sound, and projection systems, and a thrust stage that brings all the drama right out to the audience. We provide our students with challenging opportunities and hands-on technical experiences that many college theater programs cannot offer. The Drama program offers students a safe, educational, and rewarding community.
Over the last several years, the Drama program has achieved many fantastic accomplishments. Among them are a showcase of the World Premiere of Shay Healy’s Irish musical The Wiremen; presenting the 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015 New Artist Play Festivals Off-Broadway in New York City; presenting the 2014 New Artist Play Festival on the Chace Theater stage at the historic Trinity Repertory Company in Providence; and representing the state of Rhode Island at the New England Drama Festival with their original productions of Not Strictly Shakespeare in 2010, and The Trojan War…More or Less in 2015. In the Summer of 2012, several of our drama students took to the international stage as one of 35 schools in the country performing at the world’s largest and most prestigious theater festival, the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
