How to Apply

Applying for Admission

Choosing a high school is a big decision. Our goal is to make this process as easy, explorative, and helpful as possible. As a school, we have a whole-of-person mission, and we take the same holistic approach to admissions. In addition to reviewing a student’s academic record, standardized test scores, and recommendations, we look to see how each applicant is called for more — that is to say: what their interests and hobbies are, how they’re involved in their school and community, and why they think Bishop Hendricken is a good fit for them.

Admission Application

The first step in applying to Bishop Hendricken is the admission application. This should be completed online by a parent/guardian and the prospective student. This application introduces you to the Admissions Committee, including telling us about your background and interests. There is a $50 application fee.

NOTE: Our online application will undergo maintenance and be unavailable from September 25-30, 2021. We anticipate return on October 1, 2021. Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you have any questions, call the Admissions Office at 401.889.5422.

School Transcripts

We’ll request your official transcripts for the past 2 academic years from your previous school. These include a student’s courses and grades, including any available from the current school year. A parent/guardian will give us permission to request transcripts as part of the online Admissions Application.

Teacher Recommendation

A current or previous year’s teacher of your choice should complete a recommendation for you. This helps the Admissions Committee get a strong understanding of your strengths as a student. The recommendation may come from a teacher in any subject.

Entrance Exam (HSPT)

All students applying to the 8th, 9th, and 10th grade are required to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT). This helps us get a sense of your academic profile against national benchmarks.

Students are encouraged to take the HSPT at their first-choice school to be given priority consideration for admissions, scholarships, and financial aid. All test administrations are offered at Bishop Hendricken. Your HSPT fee is covered as part of your application fee.

Mathematics Placement Exam

Enrolled students will be required to take a Mathematics Placement Exam to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level math class for their freshman year.

Options Requirements

Students applying for the Options Program must also submit an Updated Neuropsychological Assessment and Educational Evaluation, as well as a current IEP, and complete a Shadow Day as part of their application. All of these help the Options faculty to better understand the student’s unique needs.

To discuss admissions criteria and requirements, set up a meeting with the Options Program faculty, here.

International Requirements

International students must also complete an English Proficiency Score and a Certificate of Finances.

International students interested in admissions should contact the Admissions Office to discuss next steps, here.

Notification of Admission

Students who complete the application process by the priority filing date will be considered among the first pool of applicants and notification letters will be mailed at the end of January.

After this date, admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis as applications are complete and provided seats are available. Families are strongly encouraged to begin the admissions process in the fall of their son’s 8th grade year if applying for freshman admissions, or the fall of 7th grade if applying for 8th Grade SELECT.
