WARWICK, RI (October 25, 2019) – Bishop Hendricken High School is proud to announce that Quinn Miller, Wide Receiver and Cornerback for the Darlington Braves (Pawtucket), will serve as a captain of the 14x Rhode Island State Champion Varsity Football team on Senior Night during the team’s final home game of the 2019 season. Miller will captain the squad as they take on her hometown Shea Raiders on Friday, November 1st at 7pm. As part of the evening’s festivities, Aram Garabedian, Co-Managing Partner of the Warwick Mall, will be on hand for the ceremonial coin toss prior to the game in celebration of the Warwick Mall’s 50th Anniversary in 2020.

“I am very excited about attending the Hendricken game on the 1st, and being invited to be a Co-Captain,” said Miller. “I hope all of the support and attention my story has received is an inspiration for any girl who has ever wanted to play football, and I hope it gives anyone who is being bullied the strength to continue doing what they love.”

“We’re honored to have Quinn join our program on Senior Night,” said Jamal Gomes ’91, Athletic Director. “Quinn exhibits all of the qualities that define our culture here at Bishop Hendricken — drive, passion for the game, and the determination to be true to oneself. She’s a Hawk through and through, and we’re all proud that she’ll be a part of our team.”

As captain, Miller is slated to join her team for warm-ups, the pre-game huddle, lead the team onto the field, and join her fellow captains at midfield for the coin toss prior to the game. During the game, Miller and her family will cheer on her team from the sidelines, and join the Hawks Broadcast Network for part of the game’s livestream on Facebook and YouTube.

“To be a captain, you have to lead no matter what the voices around you are saying,” said Angel Sanchez ’20, Varsity captain. “Quinn is just that: a leader who’s not letting the white noise slow her down. She’s so inspiring, and proving to everyone that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”

Miller garnered national attention when she shared her story of determination as a female playing the sport of football. In the face of bullying and adversity, Miller has been dedicated to improving her game, and driven to serve as an example for other young female athletes. In addition to playing football, Miller also runs cross country, plays basketball, and is an award-winning dancer. Her father, Bill, is a 1992 graduate of Bishop Hendricken. Bishop Hendricken will also honor local partner, the Warwick Mall, on Senior Night against Shea. Co-Managing Partner Aram Garabedian will be on hand in celebration of the Warwick Mall’s upcoming 50th Anniversary in 2020. As part of the festivities, Garabedian will perform the ceremonial coin toss prior to the game.

“The Warwick Mall has been an iconic part of our city and state, and we’re proud to have Aram with us to celebrate this coming milestone for his family and company, and Bishop Hendricken’s 60th Anniversary,” said Peter Thomas ’86, Director of Institutional Advancement.

In addition to his role as Co-Managing Partner, Garabedian is also the President of Bliss Properties, the mall’s owner. Garabedian was a football coach at Bishop Hendricken in the 1960’s alongside the legendary Emo DiNitto. He also had a storied political career in Rhode Island, previously serving as President of the Cranston City Council, a member of the Cranston School Committee, the Rhode Island House of Representatives, and the Rhode Island Senate.
